Children’s day celebrated in the Delhi High Court




New Delhi: On the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the National Legal Services Authority in association with Delhi State Legal Services Authority, Delhi High Court and Delhi Family Court organized a grand childrens day in Delhi High Court in the presence of Chief Justice of India, Justice Altamash Kabir, Delhi High Court’s Chief Justice,  Justice D.Murugashan, a number of other Judges of Delhi High Court and the Delhi Minister of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Prof. Kiran Walia.   The Day is celebrated both for  establishment of Family Courts and for the cause of the children jointly as Childrens Day, since on the same day, in the year 1986, Family Courts were established to save the families from  separation.  The children of various Govt. Homes and Asha Kiran Home presented a number of cultural activities, mesmerizing the audience especially one programme giving message for Communal harmony and national integration which was from God to Mahatama Gandhi.    Painting competition was also organized apart from organizing a grand magic show on the occasion.  Childrens were given away toffees, wafers, chocolates, presents. 

The Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Justice Shri Altamash Kabir, exhorted the need for giving attention to the children and said that  they are the part of our society and  such celebrations should be remain continued to inculcate feeling in them towards the society which they belong to.  He said that for the last four years or so, such Childrens days are being celebrated in the High Court and  this practice should be continued to celebrated the Childrens Day with the presence and participation of the Judges.

Prof. Kiran Walia said that the children of today are the future of the tomorrow and they will be the Pillars of the Nation day after who will bear the responsibility  of the Society.  They should be  protected, groomed properly, their rights should be told to them, their exploitation should be stopped, their education should be  ensured, they should be provided with all types of government facilities for their future.

Prof. Walia while addressing the children said that Children should be told about their rights and society should be told  loudly and clearly to discourage child labour, to discourage child marriage and discourage child exploitation and also to tell them about Child Rights such as Right to Play, Right to Speak, Right to Education, Right to Lives.  She said that the tiny hands of the children are made for playing with the toys or taking pen / pencils in their hands to learn about the world, not to use hammers & chasel.  They should be provided such an atmosphere and lovely environment where they can bloom in full blossom for making their future gloom.
