New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit today
chaired a High Level Meeting to take stock of the present situation of the
streetlighting in the Capital city. She stressed upon the need of 100%
functional street lights. Smt. Dikshit also expressed her concern over number
of non-functional street lights on certain important roads. The meeting
was attended by the Power Minister Sh. Haroon Yusuf, PWD Minister Sh. Raj Kumar
Chauhan, Chief Secretary Sh. P.K. Tripathi, Pr. Secretary (PWD), Pr. Secretary
(Power) and senior officers of DISCOMs and all other Departments/agencies
concerned.
Dikshit stated that despite
installation of SCADA system, the percentage of functional street lights has
not improved. It seems that proper monitoring over SCADA is not being
done. Apart from this, multiplicity of agencies on streetlighting work is
also resulting in problem. She instructed the Chief Secretary to come out
with a mechanism after detail consultations with all concerned agencies to
ensure well-lit roads matching to a world-class city. It was stated that
presently eight agencies are involved in streetlighting related works.
The roads transferred by the corporations and other major PWD roads needs
attention. Smt. Dikshit also instructed that the maintenance of streetlighting
and replacement of non-functional lights by the new one must be taken up
seriously.
