New Delhi:Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila
Dikshit today stated that harnessing renewable energy is a must for Delhi as it
shall help in decreasing the pollution load, shall sensitize the citizens
towards their duty of contribution to make this historic city a cleaner and
better place to live in. Smt. Dikshit said this while
handing over 1KWP Solar Power System under My Delhi I Care Fund to Kendriya
Sakari Karmchari Awas Kalayn Samiti and Central Govt. Employees Residential
Welfare Association at DIZ Area, Gole market, New Delhi.
Dikshit further stated that Delhi does not have
potential to harness the wind energy as per wind resource assessment data
available for the country. Only
possible renewable energy options in Delhi are solar and waste to energy
projects. As governments,
businesses and individuals worldwide rise to the challenges of energy security
and climate change, renewable energy has emerged as the most promising
solution. Smt. Dikshit
stated that the city government and other agencies have been preparing a foundation
for environment protection, it is for the younger generation to enrich this
constructive movement. The
fast-increasing world-wide population is alarming as there is no scope of
increasing limited natural resources, which are not going to last for ever.
The Chief Minister further stressed upon the need of
developing new and renewable energy sources. She exhorted people to conserve
resources and make judicious use. It
is must to concentrate on recycle, reuse and reduce until we overcome all
dangers arising due to climate change.
