Rupee has gained substantially in international market:Sheila

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit today stated that ours is the largest democracy in the world, hence, everybody has a right to differ on any issue.  She further stated that the certain elements are creating confusions by misleading people on proposed FDI in retail trade in the country.  It is time to dispel all fears on this issue.  It seems that a false propaganda is on and is being nurtured by the major opposition parties in the country.  They are, in fact, adopting unusual manners to express their opposition on this issue.  Their manner sometimes looks funny.  She exhorted the intellectual fraternity to come forward to clear so-called apprehensions on FDI.  The Union Government as well as Delhi Government has given thought to each and every aspect of the issue and has come to the conclusion that the proposal to implement FDI would enrich our economy and improve value of our currency in international market.  Mere announcement has started reaping better results, our rupee has gained substantially in international market.  Smt. Dikshit today inaugurated a day-long seminar on FDI organized by Shaheed Bhagat Singh College at V.P. Chest Institute, University of Delhi.  President (ICSI) Dr. Nesar Ahmed, Chairman Governing Body, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Sh. Siddharth Mishra and Sh. Dhiraj Mathur expressed their views whereas Principal of the College Sh. P.K. Khurana presided over the seminar.

Dikshit stated that being a vibrant democracy, our country’s economy is also strong enough to negate any pressure of slowdown across the world.  We are growing at the higher rate than European Union and US.  Smt. Dikshit stated that Delhi is the first state to come forward to implement FDI in retail trade.  The government is in process of making an amendment in APMC Act.  We are keen to implement it as early as possible as it is going to benefit the youth, farmers, traders and consumers.  While referring to so-called objection by retail traders, she added that not a single trader came forward to raise anticipated difficulty on implementation of FDI.  Apart from creating huge employment opportunity, FDI would go a long way in addition of modern infrastructure including storage facility.  The wastage of food items would be minimized substantially and consumers would be benefited by stabilization of prices.  The country is looking forward to an era of convenience and better consumer protection ethics.  Smt. Dikshit added that her government is committed to protect rights of every individual and every section of the society.  The contribution of traders has always been valuable.  My government is of the view that the face of Delhi would also get improved with implementation of FDI as most modern markets will come without affecting interest of traders who are operating from small colonies and lanes.  She expressed surprise that certain elements always take a negative approach in adopting the new technology and new means of advancement.  The participants in the seminar were of the view that FDI is a forward looking step of the government.
