Delhi government to provide health facility to journalist


Dr. A. K. Walia, Health & Family Welfare Minister today informed that the Delhi Government has decided to extend the same medical facilities to journalists as is being extended to GNCTD staff at special counters in the hospitals.  He said that Delhi Government will make the medical scheme for journalists more comprehensive and convenient so that the journalists and members of their families get the best medical care and treatment.  The rules and regulations pertaining to medical reimbursement to journalists will also be examined to make them simpler and inclusive.  He was speaking at an award ceremony organized by Indraprastha Press Club of India to confer award for “Outstanding contribution for Services in Health Sector” to the Health Minister. 
A special heart check-up camp was also organized on the occasion at G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi.  As part of heart check-up, about 500 journalists and members of their families underwent blood tests, ECG and received medical and dietary advice.  Dr. Veena Chaudhary, Director, G.B. Pant Hospital, Dr. Ashok Khurana, Medical Superintendent, G.B. Pant Hospital and senior doctors participated in the function and the camp. 
Appreciating the services in the field of health sector rendered by Dr. Walia to the people of Delhi and adjoining States, Mr. Narender Bhandari, President, Indraprastha Press Club of India said that he has been instrumental in ensuring medical facilities to the patients belonging to Economically Weaker Section of society (EWS category) in identified 41 private hospitals.  He also took great pain to ensure that shortage of doctors and para-medical staff in hospitals is minimized.  
Indraprastha Press Club of India also conferred the awards upon Dr. Veena Chaudhary, Director, G.B. Pant Hospital, Dr. Ashok Khurana, Medical Superintendent, G.B. Pant Hospital, Dr. Sanjay Tyagi, Head of the Cardiology Department and Dr. Vijay Trehan, Senior Cardiologists of the Hospital for their dedicated, selfless and excellent services rendered to Delhiites over decades
