Chief Secretary inspects night shelters in Capital

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Secretary Shri D.M. Spolia alongwith CEO, DUSIB Shri Amarnath last night conducted surprise inspection in number of night shelters near Yamuna Bazar and ISBT Kashmere Gate. He visited two night shelters around Hanumandir Yamuna Bazar and five near Kashmere Gate ISBT to take stock of available amenities and ground realities.

It was observed that in a few shelters number of persons spending night were more than the capacity. Around night shelters near ISBT Yamuna Bank number of persons were awaiting to enter in night shelters. Shri Spolia asked the authorities to commission atleast one or two night shelters at this site in one/two days. Keeping in view the extreme cold wheather he instructed to make available more blankets and matresses to ensure atleast two blankets to every person in the shelters. He observed shortage of drinking water and mobile toilets. Shri Spolia accordingly gave suitable instructions. He asked the DUSIB to make the shelters cool-proof by providing durries and jute mats to be laid on the floors. He stated that mobile medical vans will visit night shelters on more number of days. A few persons in the shelter stated that they have yet to receive Aadhar numbers. Shri Spolia instructed Shri Amarnath to make arrangements for this. A night shelter for the children was functioning well.
