Delhi: Shahadara Jheel all set for a major tourist attraction
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit today stated that Shahadara Jheel in North-East District would be rejuvenated to turn it into a major tourist attraction centre in the densely populated North-East District which is presently lacking such infrastructure. Smt.Dikshit today gave approval to a project prepared by the East MCD to be funded by Trans Yamuna Development Board. Shahadara Jheel dried up fully in year 2004. The present status of 30 acre land has become bad from worse due to neglect by civic agencies. This was decided during a presentation made before Smt.Dikshit by EMCD Commissioner Shri S.S. Yadav. Chairman, Trans Yamuna Development Board, Dr. Narendra Nath and Director Local Bodies Shri R.K. Srivastava were present on this occasion.
Dikshit stated that entire project would cost Rs.22 crore. The Trans Yamuna Development Board has already sanctioned Rs.7 crore as first installment. Smt.Dikshit while appreciating the project underlined the need of proper maintenance after its commissioning. The design of the project has been prepared by NEERI in association with Oasis Designs. A Water Body with Eco System concepts would be created by developing a natural habitation, bringing back Wetland and equated eco system and ground water recharge. Around 3 million per day waste water would be treated by a NEERI technology by use of unique natural process. The excess treated water will be used for non-potable reuse. It will bring reduction in pollution level in river Yamuna. A dedicated track along the revived lake would be constructed to connect it to the Metro Station. The moat to act as boundary dividing the public area and the eco sensitive area would be constructed.
