South Mayor directed for stringent action against property tax defaulters
New Delhi: Mayor of South Delhi, Savita Gupta today directed the Municipal Commissioner to take stringent action against property tax defaulters of the Central, Delhi Govt. and Semi Govt. Institutes/Departments and attach their bank account. Mayor today in a meeting with Commissioner discussed on this issue and about the different sources of generating more revenue.
Mayor said that on HUDCO, Rs. 84.22 crore and on DDA, Rs. 746 crore of property tax is pending, like this many Departments of Central, Delhi Govt. and Semi Govt. had to deposit huge amount, but they are reluctant in paying their pending property tax. She said that property tax is the main source of revenue. So we should take serious steps and strict action against property tax defaulters of the Central, Delhi Govt. and Semi Govt. to recover the property tax.
Mrs. Savita Gupta further added that South Delhi Municipal Corporation is trying to take property tax from all kinds of property whether it is Govt. or Pvt. Property. Earlier also SDMC took action against the defaulters by beating drums outside their properties and their names were also publicly announced, so to develop psychological pressure on property owners.
