New Delhi: BJP has blamed Congress and AAP for the electricity situation and the hike tariffs for the people in Delhi. Rajya Sabha MP and former President of Delhi BJP, Vijay Goel lambasted the power distribution companies for not cooperating with the CAG for the audit. “Strict action should be taken against the officials of these companies who are not cooperating with the CAG audit. If these companies have done nothing wrong, then why they are worried in sharing the information with the CAG,” said Goel.
“We are also getting reports that there could be substantial increase of power tariff after April 1 this year which will be accompanied by substantial power cuts. The BJP will not tolerate this. We will not allow Delhi residents to suffer at the hands of power discoms. The DERC should immediately step in and clarify the situation,” he added.
“I am going to take up this matter with Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission(DERC). The DISCOMS , aided by a section of bureaucracy and Congress and AAP are robbing Delhi consumers. The DERC must step in and ensure that the tariffs are not increased and there are no unscheduled power cuts during summers,” said Goel.
Goel said that it is clear that first the Congress government and then AAP government has grossly mishandled the power sector resulting in the current situation. Initially Congress government doled out thousands of crores of rupees of public money to the power discoms in the name of subsidies. Then AAP government doled out Rs 372 crore to these companies.”
Only some “populist’ measures were adopted by AAP which have backfired. The result is that Delhi’ites will continue to suffer from exorbitant tariffs,” said Sh. Goel.
