New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila
Dikshit today stated that education system in Delhi has transformed as a system
to facilitate all round development of students and to make them pioneer in all
relevant fields. She further stated that education, in fact, determines
direction of the future. The government schools in Delhi are since
treated far better than the public schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas. In
respect of CBSE results, the government schools have improved substantially
from 57% to 90% or so. The entire Education Department is
computerized. One can check all the information related to our school
simply by pressing few buttons on keyboard. The Department is preparing
the students to meet any challenge in life. The initiatives taken by the
city government are developing balanced personalities, who can adjust in the
society and contribute to its progress. Smt. Dikshit while addressing a
gathering of students, teachers and parents at Thyagraj Stadium in a function
organized to present Indira Awards-2012 to the best schools, outstanding
teachers and meritorious students, stated that the implementation of Right to
Education (RTE) would go a long way in empowerment of people across the
country. Delhi Education Minister Prof. Kiran Walia, Parliamentary
Secretary to CM Sh. Surender Kumar, MLA Sh. Jaswant Rana, Secretary (Education)
Sh. Diwan Chand, Director (Education) Sh. Amit Singla and other eminent persons
were present in the function.

Dikshit added that my government is now concentrating on skill development as
bare school teaching is not going to suffice to make passed out students
capable enough to sustain in a competitive world. The skill development
helps the students in making them also self-employed. The government has
tied up with Singapore Government to offer technical training in more than 20
useful trades in an institute being set up at Jaunapur. The institute
will also offer training to the trainers. She also stated that the city
government has started smart classes which are going to revolutionalize the
system of learning. Smt. Dikshit complimented school children in making
number of Delhi government’s campaigns successful. While paying rich
tribute to former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, the Chief Minister
described her as the tallest women leader in the world.
Speaking
on this occasion, Education Minister Prof. Kiran Walia stated that the life of
Indira ji was fully dedicated to the nation. The Education Department in
Delhi has been striving hard to provide the best infrastructure
facilities. Our government schools are ahead in all respects of public
and private schools in the Capital city. She stated that Indira Award was
instituted in the year 1999 and since then, the Directorate of Education has
been honouring its best schools, teachers and students year after year
uninterruptedly. Today, in all 382 students, teachers and schools are
being felicitated by disbursement of awards worth Rs.23,20,500/- and around 350
silver medals. Further, our students have been doing exceptionally well
in sports.
