Delhi: The first Liver University of Asia completes its 3rd year
New Delhi: The ILBS which is an autonomous society under the City Government has completed three years as a fully functional 155 bedded super Speciality Hospital. It has also been granted status of deemed university by the UGC. Further it received NABH accreditation in 2010. It happens to be the first Liver University in Asia and is running a successful Post Graduate Teaching Programme in various specialties including hepatology, hepato Biliary Surgery Liver Transplantation and Renal Transplantation.
The Institute has achieved a lot during the last three years. It has still to achieve more and more to become an institute of international prominence. The Institute today celebrated its 3rd Foundation Day wherein Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari was present as the Chief Guest, Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit presided over the function.
Speaking on this occasion Ansari stated that it is imperative for the State to provide health care coverage to all especially marginalized and deprived sections of the Society. Its time to provide attention on preventive care. He underlined the importance of joint efforts by the Government Agencies and NGOs to work in the filed of health care. He expressed confidence that the ILBS on commissioning of its phase-II would provide additional facilities and would become a model institute in Liver and Billiary Sciences.
Dikshit stated that the City Government would provide grant for establishing an endowment chair in the Institute. Earlier Dr. Sarin requested the Government to help in establishing three endowment chairs. Smt. Dikshit while underlining the need of prevention stated that her Government would also help in extending reach of the Institute by deploying number of mobile units to bring awareness on prevention of liver and Biliary diseases and provide initial treatment at the doorstep of the people.
