New Delhi: Staff of PS Sarojini Nagar, South District have arrested a lady pock-pocket namely Anita (40 years) w/o Mahesh Kumar r/o Village Ferozpur, Palwal, Haryana who was operating in the busy Sarojini Nagar Market and recovered stolen property.
According to South Delhi DCP, there had been instances of pick-pocketing in the Sarojini Nagar Market on the weekends and holidays in which mobile phones and small purses were stolen. In order to curb such incidents, informers in plain clothes were deployed in the market to keep close watch over the activities of suspicious women moving around.
On 13th January 2013, Ms. Rakhi r/o Durga Vihar, Khanpur, Delhi had come to Sarojini Nagar Market for shopping along with her friends. While they were shopping in the market, the complainant noticed that a woman was holding her purse in her hand. The complainant raised an alarm to which Ct. Devender No. 3291/SD, Beat Officer of the Sarojini Nagar Market, who was nearby patrolling responded immediately and apprehended the accused. Apart from the purse of the complainant containing Rs. 1,000/-, two more stolen purses were also recovered from the possession of the accused. In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 16/13 dated 13.01.13 u/s. 379/411 IPC PS Sarojini Nagar was registered on the statement of the complainant and accused was arrested.
MODUS OPERANDI : During interrogation, it was revealed that accused Manju was running a gang of pick pockets, operating in the busy markets. She had come to Sarojini Nagar Market along with her associates namely Reshma and Kavita, both r/o Faridabad. They used to assemble near Hazrat Nizammudding Railway Station to target the innocent people. The gang used to operate in the busy markets such as Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and Greater Kailash during weekends and used to steal purses and mobile phones.
