New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has stated that Delhi is becoming a Medical Tourism Hub as large number of patients is being attracted for the quality treatment and health services available in Delhi at affordable rates. During her address on the celebration of Republic Day, she said that Delhi caters to the needs of patients from neighbouring states.
It is estimated that 33% out of total number of patients are coming from the other states. Delhi hospitals are having 43,000 beds. The new ambulances are going to help in saving the valuable lives of patients. The government has made grant of medical assistance to poor persons from<i>Dilli Arogya Kosh </i>more liberal. The state can boast of five accredited hospitals- Delhi Institute of Liver &amp; Billiary Sciences, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi Cancer Institute, Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences and Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya. Delhi has commissioned more than five new universities. It is going to open a Technical Women University.
The new campus of GGSIP University will be constructed in Surajmal Vihar, East Delhi. The Indraprasth Institute of Information Technology has earned name and fame even in its early years. Delhi has implemented RTE to ensure 100% enrollment. It has been finding a difficult to open more schools as the subject of land is not under the city government. The government has been providing free education upto 14 years. The government ensured admission of about 20,000 children under EWS quota in public schools.
