Delhi to delete 'unauthorize' words from its dictionary: Sheila Dikshit
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today stated that people had to settle in unauthorized colonies due to compulsions as there was no other option available. The Government agencies neglected the need of more and more dwelling units required for the increasing population in the Capital City. The people invested their hard earned income to construct small dwelling units in unauthorized colonies. Further, they were forced to put up in colonies without civic amenities. Our Government would never allow any agency to demolish their houses and uproot the families, mostly belonging to middle income group and weaker sections.
Dikshit stated that our Government could not provide dwelling units to overcome coming up of unauthorized colonies as it has no control over land. We have decided to construct three lakh low cost houses on land available with us. The houses are meant for the residents of JJ Clusters, Slums and Members of weaker sections. Moreover, the houses for the scheduled caste members would be provided for free as the Government would provide portion of the cost to be met by the allottee. The Government has tied up with banks to ensure loans to the weaker sections of the society for this purpose. The Cabinet has decided to regularize colonies came up on ridge/forest land and ASI. This will prove to be a big relief to around 15 lakh persons. The Government would also consider regularizing remaining colonies as the term unauthorized would become a thing of the past.
Delhi UD Minister Shri Arvinder Singh stated that the City Government headed by Smt.Dikshit has taken cue from the regularization of colonies effected by Indira Ji. Smt.Sonia Gandhi and Smt. Dikshit have shown courage to regularize colonies on the lines of Smt. Indira Gandhi to provide relief to the poor and weaker sections families. It is a big achievement as it was looking impossible to accompalish this impossible task in an administrative set up with limited powers with the City Government.
