Installation of retro-reflective tapes on bicycles will help make bicycles a safer mode of transportation on various busy roads , particularly during late hours. The campaign is being carried out in three areas of Delhi including KhanPur T Point, Lalkuan, Mehrauli Badarpur Road and Sashtri Park, Pushta Road, Trans Yamuna, ”said Mr Satyndra Garg, DCP, Traffic, Delhi Police.
“International Road Federation (IRF) has been urging the government , Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the industry for making installation of retro-reflective tapes on bicycles mandatory. BIS has already done the technical evaluation and final decision is pending for long time” said Mr K.K.Kapila, Chairman, IRF .
“These tapes are being put free of cost in league with NTPC, 3M, Reflexite India and Avery Denison under their CSR programme.” Said Mr Kapila.
According to the proposal, the tapes will be fixed on several parts of a bicycle — white tape on front lamp bracket, red tape on rear mud guard and yellow tape on seat stay and front fork.
