<p>New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today launched the 6th Economic Census in Delhi, when the Enumerator visited the official residence of the Chief Minister for collecting the information and filling up the schedules for recording details of the households and establishments. The Chief Minister urged all citizens of Delhi to extend full co-operation in furnishing accurate and complete information and make the 6th Economic Census a big success in Delhi.</p>
<p>Economic Census means complete enumeration of all establishments/units performing economic activities within the geographical boundaries of Delhi. About 12,000 Enumerators and Supervisors will carry out the census in about 33,200 Enumeration Blocks spread in the 11 Revenue District of Delhi during the period February to March. The field survey is expected to cover around 45 lakh census households. The present Economic Census is the 6th in the series and the earlier five Economic Censuses were conducted in 1977, 1980, 1990, 1998 and 2005. The Additional Director General & Chief Commissioner (EC) Sh. V.K. Arora and Director (Planning), Government of Delhi Dr. B.K. Sharma were present on this occasion at CM Residence.</p>
<p>The Economic Census involves complete enumeration of all establishments/units performing economic activities in the geographical boundaries of Delhi. The data in respect of Organized Sector is generally available with the various registering authorities. But no reliable data is available in respect of Un-organized Sector although it has an important role in Delhi’s economy. Economic Census therefore emerges as the only source of information in respect of Un-organized Sector.</p>
<p>The Economic Census will also provide the information in respect of establishments having no fixed premises such as mobile vendors, hawkers, rickshaw pullers, taxi/auto operators, reheriwalas/khomchawalas, cobblers, porters, electricians, plumbers etc. and the host of self-employment establishments or operating from households with less visibility like handicrafts, tailoring, embroidery/zari, private tuition/coaching and the like.</p>
