New Delhi:It seems that as the Assembly election for Delhi is coming near, government is all set to settle down all the pending issues on war level  Delhi Cabinet today decided to take up with the Union Government seeking permission to carry out developmental works in those unauthorized colonies which are now fulfilling condition of more than 50% built-up plots.   It also agreed to the proposal of the Union Government for regularizing affluent colonies and has also given its nod to a scheme for conferring ownership rights in resettlement colonies.  The Cabinet constituted a committee of secretaries to decide modalities of allotment of flats to the urban poor under Rajiv Ratna Awas Yojana. The decisions were taken at a Cabinet Meeting presided by the Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit.

While briefing the media after the Cabinet Meeting, Dikshit stated that her government is committed to regularize all unauthorized colonies and to carry out developmental works in such colonies in order to improve the standard of living of the large number of the residents.  The colonies were considered for regularization as per norm of minimum 50% built-up plots as on 2007.  The remaining 450 colonies which were not fulfilling the condition on that day could not be considered as built-up percentage of plot varied from 10% to 45% or so, though, the colonies have now become eligible for consideration as the percentage of built-up plots has crossed 50% and is touching around 90% in such colonies.

Smt. Dikshit further stated that the issue of grant of ownership rights in 45 resettlement colonies developed from 1950 onwards by the DDA/Government of India for relocation and resettlement of occupants of slums & JJ colonies has been awaiting finalization of a proper scheme.  It may be recalled that around 2,50,000 plots measuring from 25 to 80 sq. yard were allotted on license basis.  The city government had approved a proposal to grant ownership rights in such colonies which has already been concurred by the Union Government.
