Delhi: The Government of Delhi is committed to ensure 24x7 power supply to the
citizens of Delhi. Keeping in view the last year’s summer peak load of
about 5600 MW, bulk supply to the DISCOMs was ensured to meet the power demand
of Delhi during 2013. The Power Department today stated that about 6100
MW power was tied up for this summer by DISCOMs. The DISCOMs are not
buying any costly power from gas stations and liquid fuel stations of NTPC and
have arranged this power of about 6100 MW from reasonably cheaper sources in
the interests of Delhi consumers. The Department further stated that the
peak load of Delhi for last few days is hovering around 4500 MW whereas the
availability of power during the peak is hovering about 5500MW. Hence,
there arises no shortage of power supply in Delhi.
However, during summer, it is possible
that due to ambient temperature which keeps on rising in summer, the
machines/conductors/wires are susceptible to incur tripping and faults. Apart
from this the DISCOM normally take few minutes in changing over the lines and
supply wherever there occurs any tripping on account of technical
reasons. The DISCOMs have been directed by Delhi Government to ensure
that the local faults are monitored minutely and arranged power of about 6100
MW for this summer is supplied to the general public safely.
Public/consumers are advised to contact
DISCOMS complaint centers/toll free numbers in case of power failure for
immediate rectification of defaults since shortage of power is not the reason
for power supply failure.
