New Delhi: Senior
MLA and Parliamentary Secretary to CM Mukesh Sharma today raised two important
issues under Rule 280 in the Assembly. He raised issue of corruption in
release of aged/widow pensions in MCD and ongoing irregularities in booking of
parks/community centres for marriages and other social events. Sharma
stated that a nexus between tent Mafia and corporators is there which is
creating problems for the citizens in getting parks/community halls booked in
their names.
It is learnt that tent Mafia is working
overtime to get advanced bookings in fake names to informally transfer the
bookings in favour of needy persons by charging hefty money for this
purpose. It is on the record that the parks and community centres
transferred by DDA to the corporations for maintenance purposes. The
corporations have authorized the corporators to make recommendations for
booking. It has come to the notice that corporators are becoming party
alongwith tent Mafia in squeezing money from the needy persons. The other
members also joined Sh. Sharma in raising this issue.
Sharma also stated
that the process of release of pension in the corporations is not transparent
and clean. As the city government has put on release of all benefits of
its social sector schemes on ECS mode, the corporations have yet to implement
this. In lack of ECS mode in the corporations, the beneficiaries are
finding it difficult to get full due amount of their pensions as the officers
and upto some extend corporators have been keeping a part of pension while
distributing them at their ease. In this process, the beneficiaries are
being harassed and they are forced to frequently visit the places of
corporators. Sh. Sharma demanded that the corporations may be instructed
to adopt ECS mode in releasing pension money to the beneficiaries. Sh.
Arvinder Singh while replying to this issue, stated that he will instruct the
corporations to implement ECS mode in releasing pensions to aged and widows to
ensure transparency and accuracy.
