‘Spandan’: Indian Police celebrated its 150 Years
New DelhI: To mark its 150th Anniversary, the Indian Police will celebrate and showcase its capabilities as well as its evolution over the years by organizing an event – ‘Spandan’ at Sports Complex, Vinay Marg, Chanakyapuri on December 8, 2012 at 1600 Hrs. Spandan, the word, owes its etymology to Sanskrit and denotes a resonant ‘beat’ that harmonises the movement especially, life and its various
facets.
Spandan will display the police prowess and also showcase the skills and talents that have been developed over the years. It will also be a spectacle of the cultural spectrum represented by more than one thousand policemen and women drawn from all over the country. A wide sweep from the traditional arts like Kalaripayattu & craft of horsemanship, to the dare-devilry displayed on motorcycles and gravity defying rifle-drills by police women would be on show. The event would also highlight the increasing role and empowerment of women in the Indian Police. Women today stand ready to face any challenge that threatens the country.
To mark this 150th year, and to recognize the contribution of the Indian Police, the Hon’ble Prime Minister has announced a medal for all serving police personnel. As a tribute to all those amongst the police, who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation, for the first time a Commemoration Parade was held in the Capital on October, 21 in the august presence of the Hon’ble Union Home
Minister. A stamp is also being released to mark the occasion.The celebrations are open to people from all walks of life to experience and witness the skills and abilities of the Indian Police. Traffic Advisory for the event: In view of this function there will be some traffic restrictions in the areas in vicinity. 1. Commercial vehicles and buses will be diverted from R/A Samarat to Panchsheel Marg keeping Vinay Marg clear from 1530 hrs to 1630 hrs and during dispersal. 2. If needed general traffic will be diverted to Pancheel Marg. 3. People can avoid Vinay Marg during expected time of congestion.
