New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today laid the foundation stone for the 53rd grid sub-station of BYPL at Karol Bagh. It would cost ` 33 cr and would be commissioned with six months. The next generation fully automatic 33/11 KV grid station is being constructed over a limited area keeping in view the scarcity of space in densely populated locality.

It would ensure uninterrupted power supply and will take care of any unforeseen eventualities. The sub-station will incorporate the latest distribution technology and stringent benchmarks including state-of-the-art numerical relay for protection. The initial capacity will be 50 MVA which could be further increased by 25 MVA depending on the power growth of the area. The commissioning of grid will not only improve power supply, make the voltage more stable, but also help in reducing technical losses.
Dikshit after laying foundation of the proposed grid, stated that the last few years have witnessed tremendous development in the area resulting in increase in power consumption. She added that the grid is being commissioned over an area of only 13/40 sq. meter. It would further improve the power supply to important areas in installations like New Delhi Railway Station, hotels in Paharganj, DHIL Super specialty hospital, Jhandewalan Extn., Delhi Jal Board Headquarters, D.B. Gupta Road and all other adjoining localities.
