New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today stated that the Christian community which is small in numbers in Delhi as well as in the country has contributed substantially in developing health and education institutions across the country. The contribution of the community is difficult to be described in words. They have accomplished the kind of work which no other else can do. Smt. Dikshit expressed these views in a function organized by Delhi Minorities Commission to felicitate incoming Archbishop of Delhi J T Couto and bid farewell to outgoing Archbishop Vincent M Concessao. She described them messengers of god.
While referring to Archbishop Vince M Concessao Dikshit remembered services rendered by him during his five decade long stay in Delhi. Smt. Dikshit further stated that the new Archbishop is also compassionate and highly spiritual like his predecessor. She also stated that the community has established schools and hospitals in almost all cities in the world. The community stands for care and compassion. Delhi Minorities Commission Chairman Shri Safdar H Khan, Members Shri Pushpinder Singh & Sh. A.C. Michael and large number of eminent personalities including Sisters & Fathers were present.
Speaking on this occasion Archbishop Vincent M Concessao stated that Smt. Dikshit is the best friend of the minorities in Delhi. Her concern for the development, upliftment and welfare of the minorities is well-known. Under her guidance and leadership Delhi Minorities Commission has done outstanding work in Delhi. He also referred to the journey of Chetnalaya which is providing services to the poorest of poor and other vulnerable sections in Delhi and adjoining NCR cities.
On this occasion, the new Archbishop of Delhi J T Couto stated that the Christian community is committed to selfless service to the nation and nation building. For overall development two factors-education and health are essential, hence, the community has been contributing in these two fields right from the beginning till now. The community is, in fact, taking small steps for the bigger work. The incoming and outgoing were presented mementos and a list of demands was also submitted to the Chief Minister.
