New Delhi: Indian women known for their strength, affection and tolerance shall be ruling the country in 21st Century, professed Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit. The strength of Indian women lies in the fact that she does what she says. She was speaking after releasing a book on “Indraprastha The Quest of Women’s Education in Delhi” written by Padma Shree Ms. Kapila Vatsayan in a function organized by Indraprastha Hindu Girls’ Sr. Sec. School, Jama Masjid at Delhi Secretariat today. President of School Governing Body Sh. Narain Prasad, Manager Mrs. Gita Gupta and Principal Mrs. Savita Aggarwal were also present on this occasion.
She complimented women and stated that their contribution in development has been remarkable. The women have been contributing substantially in home and outside world. The city government initiated “Laadli” scheme which helped in improvement in gender ratio. The scheme is linked with birth of girl child and their education. There are around 150 GRCs which are providing ample opportunities to women to become self-sufficient.
It is irony that there has been no evaluation of work being done by the women, even their earning is not added in family income. In order to make women empowered, a number of NGOs have been working along with GRCs to impart useful training to them. Thousands of women have been benefited with this. The government has decided to strengthen Mahila Panchayats by providing more funds. This will help ordinary women to be well-versed with process of their advancement. She expressed confidence that women will continue to be associated with various welfare schemes of the city government.
Dikshit further said that time has come now to acknowledge the work of women by quantifying the output in terms of monetary compensation. Such financial quantification would help in ascertaining the status of women in the society.
