New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has stated that her government has been developing scientific attitude among students and younger generation. Around 2500 eco-clubs have been contributing substantially in preserving nature apart from making successful various city government campaigns on environment protection and expansion of green area. She expressed these views in day-long National Science Day Celebrations organized by the Department of Environment & Forests, Government of Delhi. An exhibition-cum-workshop on latest issues of science and technology was organized.

Dikshit keenly watched the models displayed in the exhibition and appreciated them. The latest scientific, innovative and attractive models may go a long way in accelerating the pace of development. Smt. Dikshit stated that the models displayed by the students needs to be replicated in the schools. It may be noted that around 2500 eco-clubs are functional in the schools. The school to replicate suitably by eco-club will be rewarded with an amount of ` 50,000/. She stated that the government has, since, instituted Eco-club Achiever Award. Number of school children expressed their views on the relevance of scientific principles and need of promoting research on scientific issues. Secretary (Environment & Forests) Sanjiv Kumar and other senior officers of the Department were also present on this occasion.

National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 every year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian Scientist Sir C.V. Raman, who was the first Indian scientist to be honoured with the prestigious Nobel Award in physics in the year 1930. The celebration attracted many young minds and motivated them to take up science as their career. It also helped in showcasing our competence in the field of science and infuse scientific temper among the young minds. A technical session was also organized wherein noted scientists expressed their views.
