New Delhi: Irrigation and Flood Control
Minister, Delhi Government, Dr A K Walia, has expressed hope that with widening
of the much awaited bridge in the area, not thousands of commuters passing
everyday through the busy East Delhi area will get rid of perpetual traffic
jam. It will be a boon to the residents of hundreds of near-by thickly
populated colonies, providing much needed relief in terms of time and energy.
He expressed hope that the widening work will be completed within this year
itself.
Dr Walia said that since coming to power
in 1998, the present Delhi Government has changed the face of Delhi, especially
East Delhi. Starting 15 years back with poor medical facilities, today Delhi
presents a vibrant look with a network of reputed government hospitals, having
ultra-modern facilities. Rajiv Gandhi Super-specialty Hospital to be dedicated
shortly to citizens will bring world-class medical facilities in almost all
specialties at the doorstep of the residents of East Delhi.
Sandeep Dikshit, MP, said that Delhi
Government has never said “no” to any development scheme in East Delhi. The
present widening of the bridge at Karkari More should be seen as an important
link in the long chain developments. Though the population of Delhi has grown
by about 80 lakhs during the last 15 years, the civic services have increased
many-folds. Uninterrupted 24 hour supply of electricity and water are great
achievements of the Government, he said.
Mr Naseeb Singh, MLA, demanded that
keeping in view the Delhi Government’s emphasis on social welfare and present
rate of inflation, the pension of widows, poor senior citizens and other weaker
sections should be raised from Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per month.
