New Delh: The Standing Committee Chairmen, Leader of the Houses of the three corporations and Mayors of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and East Delhi Municipal Corporation today called on Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to discuss various issues. The meeting was attended by the UD Minister Shri Arvinder Singh, the Chief Secretary D.M. Spolia, Director (Local Bodies) R.K. Srivastava and other senior officers.
The representatives of the three corporations raised number of issues namely nomination of the councilors in Delhi Jal Board, DDA, DUSIB, property tax, shortage of staff, etc. whereas the Chief Minister told them to concentrate on sanitation and cleanliness. She further stated that her government is willing to help the municipal bodies but would like to see the results.
The corporation leaders stated that there has been a marked improvement in property tax collection. Regarding landfill site, a suggestion was mooted that a joint meeting with DDA should be arranged to get sites for this purpose.
Dikshit instructed the UD Minister and Secretary (UD) to convene meetings on regular intervals to resolve the problems being faced by the corporations. The instruction of the Chief Minister was welcomed by the corporation leaders.
The UD Minister expressed confidence that the regular meeting would go a long way in streamlining the functioning of the corporations.
